"Honor your father and mother"- which is the first commandment with a promise. -Ephesians 6:2
Yesterday, I had the privilege of speaking to a group of youth at a church about what it means to honor your parents. Merriam Webster's Dictionary defines the word honor as "to regard or treat (someone) with respect and admiration." To honor your parents means that you should treat them with respect. If you don't respect your parents, then you are not truly honoring them. Obedience is also a way to honor your parents. It is said in Ephesians 6:1 to "obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right." Obeying your parents is not only the right thing to do, but it also shows that you respect God. When you obey your parents, you are also obeying the One who placed them in your life for a reason. Sometimes, we may think that they don't understand what we go through, but our parents know a lot more than we think we do. In fact, our parents have gone through so much more than what we go through today. Through those experiences, our parents have obtained a greater amount of wisdom than we even possess. When your parents give you advice, don't ignore it. Listen to their advice and take it in. Your parents don't want you to settle for anything less than God's best for you.

Habakkuk 1:2- How long, O Lord, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, "Violence!" but you do not save?
Habakkuk 1:5- "Look at the nations and watch- and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told." Sometimes, you may feel like God isn't listening to your prayers, but know this: No matter what the hour or day is, He is always listening. Don't stop praying. God answers in His timing, even in ways that you may not understand or expect. He hears you when you call on Him. He hears you when you cry out to Him. God is always attentive to prayer, and won't reject or ignore a single one. Today's Verse: Jeremiah 29:11
What does Jeremiah 29:11 say?
God is the reason why your heart is beating, why you're alive and breathing. You are not here by accident. God knew what He was doing when He created you. God has great things in store for you. He knows what He's doing in your life right now, and holds you and your future in the palm of His hands. |
